Hello all,
I am working on some stamping weldments that create and automotive sub frame. I am starting to program some of the features to be measured and had a question about the GD&T on this particular area. It is calling out position on the length and width of this slot. It also is saying Datum C is just the width. Could someone help on how I would set this up. Both reporting the position of length and width and also how to label just the width as Datum C? Thanks in advance!

Hi Racinslack,
Can you point to datum A? Assuming datum A is a plane, there are 2 possible outcomes here (Table 4-4, Y14.5.1M 1994, Case 3.13 or Case 3.14).

Ryan,
Datum A comes from 4 datum targets on the body mounts. I generally pick up a point on each one of these surfaces and create a Plane from those 4 points.

Bilateral Position will allow this callout for Position of Slot feature with (MMC) modifier. I might suggest measuring as Round Slot, but then export Raw Data (on straights) and reconstruct as Open Slot for sake of creating Datum C feature.

Ok so make open slot from points (on straights) for datum C. As for the positional reporting, use the open slot for reporting the width? What about reporting position of the length?
Re: Reporting Length and Width Position of a slot.
Measure Round Slot
Construct Cloud - Extract Raw Data
Construct Points From Cloud (just pick points on straight sections)
Best Fit Construct Open Slot
Now you have TWO Slot Features in Program but only measured once.

Ah Okay. I didn't think to use the initial slot. Thanks Crash!
